"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is a humorous science fiction novel by Douglas Adams. It follows the adventures of Arthur Dent, an unwitting human survivor of the destruction of the Earth by the Vogons, a bureaucratic alien race. Together with his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the eponymous "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", Arthur embarks on a journey across the universe that includes a run-in with the two-headed Galactic President, a visit to the planet of the eccentric planet designer Slartibartfast, and the discovery of the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. Along the way, they encounter a range of bizarre characters and improbable situations that make for a hilariously entertaining read.
